The „Hıdrellez“ Spring Festival is a seasonal festival celebrated every year on the night of May 5th and on May 6th. This day is recognized as Spring day, or the awakening of nature. Hıdrellez is celebrated by various cultures in Turkey, near the Balkans, Anatolia and the Middle East, and Central Asia. Hıdrellez is a compound noun derived from “Hidir” and “Ilyas”. They are believed to be the protectors of earth and water and the helpers of individuals, families and communities in need of them. To mark this occasion, various ceremonies and rituals connected with nature are performed, guaranteeing the well-being, fertility and prosperity of the family and community and protecting livestock and crops for the upcoming year. We bring and share food and drinks and celebrate the awakening of nature. Many invocations are usually said on Hıdrellez because, according to popular belief, prayers said on this day are always answered. Those who wish something for their life can write their wishes on a piece of paper and hang it on a tree.

Every Seed is a Longing
Mittwoch 8. Mai – Dienstag 28. Mai Every Seed is a Longing Ausstellungshalle im Neuen Rathaus Bayreuth, Luitpoldplatz 13, Bayreuth, 95444 DE | EN | FR
Freitags : 9 – 15 Uhr
The exhibition aims to explore and foster the importance of plants and inspire a deeper understanding and greater appreciation for the plant world. Plants are essential to human well-being; they form the foundation of our lives. Despite their central relevance for (future) life on earth, literature, art and cultural studies have so far paid little attention to plants. However, a change has been taking place in recent years, which can be seen, among other things, in the new research field of cultural plant research – Plant Studies.
In this context, the attention of cultural science research is increasingly directed towards plants, which are viewed not only as research objects, but as essential actors in our social and ecological structure. Plant Studies deal with ethical and philosophical questions about the condition of plants, explore our historical and current relationship to them and question the practices of interaction between people and plants in literature, art and culture.
As part of this interdisciplinary approach, the exhibition „Every Seed is a Longing“ aims to shed light on the different ways in which people perceive, use and culturally process plants. The aim is to create awareness for a more respectful treatment of nature.
Monday to Thursday : 9 am – 5 pm

Critical Mass
18:00 – 19:30 Critical Mass Treffpunkt: Sternplatz, Bayreuth Critical mass (engl., dt.
Organisation? Es gibt keine! Critical Mass organisiert sich von selbst.
JedeR mit einem Fahrrad ist Willkommen! 🙂 Wiederholt sich monatlich
